Long before the current conflict between Grineer and Corpus, the Orokin stood as the pinnacle of sentient life in their sector. They utilized transference to move consciousness between bodies indefinitely, seeking immortality while commanding vast fleets and constructing massive orbital structures. Their society was rigidly hierarchical, relying on slave labor from various species to sustain their endless expansion and grand architectural projects. The Empire's downfall began with a creation of their own: the Sentients, self-replicating machines sent to terraform the Tau system, which returned as an external threat from beyond the Origin System. These artificial invaders launched a devastating assault known as the Old War, forcing the Orokin into desperation. To counter this alien menace, the Orokin developed the Warframe technology, initially using adult subjects; the Zariman children later became Tenno and controlled the Warframes via Transference. The Tenno ultimately helped destroy the Sentient fleet, but it was their own betrayal—awakened and guided by the Lotus (Natah), not directly orchestrated by her—that ended the Empire. The Sentients weakened the Empire through the Old War, but the final blow came from within. Today, only echoes of their power remain in the form of abandoned cities, dormant ships, and encoded archives scattered across the system.
